Dallas Mavericks 4/13/11

Anyone who knows me knows I’m a huge Dallas Mavericks fan.  This month I was given an opportunity to shoot from the floor at the last home season game before the play-offs.  Now, I’ve never shot sports photography, but I was game to give it a go.  I spent a few hours researching optimum camera settings for athletic events and armed with my newly minted press pass, headed courtside.  It was a wholly new experience, seeing the game from this angle.  Tracking through my lens was at first an awkward process, but then I got the hang of it.  And thanks to some help from the seasoned sports photographers seated next to me, I learned a few important tips – like what white balance works for an arena setting and what to do if and when a seven-foot player comes careening towards you.  Luckily, my spot was trample-free for the duration of the game.  I can’t wait to get out there again next season!
